Is it true that of you enlist in the military, your making a commitment eight years?

well after i graduate high school as cl of 2010, I want to become a nurse anesthetist, and I'm thinking about enlisting in the army to help me out with financial aid. Am i making a right decision? Are there any negative things about the army?
