Hindu/madras puja?????????

i am told by the pandit i have to sacrifice an animal to peform a kateri ma puja...is this right?????????????????? i need help asap..and im not hindu..i dont want to deal with any kind of black magic..or netheir do i want to get commited to doing these rituals..BUT i have seen and heard they help the sick..and i really cant turn to ANYTHING but the madras culture..
